Jesus, how much do you love me?

The sun was warm. The grass was green.
The birds were singing gay.
A mother sat at her spinning wheel
as she watched her child at play.

A young and handsome boy was He.
A child who just turned three.
His greatest joy and thrill in life,
was climbing the highest tree.

“How much do you love me?”
His Mother asked, this child so fine so free.
“This much”……..He answered with his arms out
stretched and quickly ran to her knee.

This much…..I love you.
Oh! This much…..I really care,
This much I love you,
and I’ll always be right here.

The years have past. The child has grown.
He’s young and handsome still.
But His favorite tree that He loved to climb,
He just carried to Calvary Hill.

His mother stands, I watched her
tears fall silently one by one.
I know she feels each hammer
blow as they crucify Her Son.

“How much do you love me?”
The world has asked this Man, now crucified.
“This much”……. He answered with His arms out
stretched and bowed His head and died.

This much…….I love you.
Oh! This much…..I really care,
This much I love you,
and I will always be right here.
